Sun Requirements

• Sage loves full sun but appreciates a break from the brutal late‑afternoon rays.
• In Austin, plant where it gets morning sun and light afternoon shade.
• Container plants can be moved to protect them from 105 °F heat waves.

Watering

• Deep‑water once or twice a week depending on rainfall.
• Let the top inch of soil dry before watering again.
• Overwatering in Austin’s humidity can cause root rot, so err on the dry side.

Soil & Fertilizer (Organic‑Only)

Use a well‑draining mix: compost + coarse sand + native soil.

Container sage

• Monthly compost tea
• Monthly diluted fish emulsion (½ strength)
• Monthly worm castings (light)
• Light feeder; too much nitrogen makes leaves soft and reduces aroma
• Terracotta or well‑draining pots help prevent moisture buildup
